Founded in 1819 as a small trading outpost, Flint grew to become one of the world's great industrial cities on the back of its carriage-making industry. When the automobile arrived, it transitioned seemlessly into the horseless era, and remains a major center of car production in the 21st Century. Its 1936/37 Sit Down Strike launched the modern labor movement in America.
